The Wabash coming over with what I recall was a pretty huge train. They'd spend the next several hours making a mess of the yard, and may have even outlawed over here if memory serves. I wouldn't stick around - 531 would be leaving Port Rob soon with 3115 on point.

Long live the centre cabs! When the NREX end cabs arrived for NSC, I was admittedly a little sad, as I had grown quite fond of the centre cabs I had seen countless times over the past several years. Not to mention, with the demise of the <a href="https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=39036" target="_blank">Columbian Carbon centre cab</a> and more recently the <a href="https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=51977" target="_blank">Bunge centre cab</a>, they were arguably more rare to find still roaming industrial operations. And hey, if I wanted to see an end cab, there's a better one working Parkdale literally just down the street. <br><br>With one of the NSC end cabs having been involved in an incident on the property a while back, it's still easy enough to find 11 roaming around, much to my delight. <br><br>Things looks a little different at Steel Car now with the barriers and security truck. All vehicles entering and exiting the property now do so through the entrance a little further north.

Nothing too exciting here photo-wise, but a bit of news to share from industrial Hamilton. The port has been busy installing some new track here, which the 0700 is seen shoving past on their way to Parkland Fuels. <br><br>To give a bit of the lay of the land here - the track in the foreground coming off the runaround is the Yellowline Lead, which is used to serve both Crawford Rail and Yellowline Asphalt. Cars for Crawford (flats of rail) are left outside their facility, effectively blocking access to Yellowline while they're there. <br><br>The new track is further behind the Yellowline Lead, where the newly installed switch comes off the runaround and heads off to the right of the image. I am told (via CP crews) this track is for a new customer who will receive sulfur tanks. A year or two ago CN dropped a tank on the runaround where apparently sulfur had solidified and had to be cleaned by a specialist company, so I wonder if this new track is for them, but for now that is only speculation on my part. <br><br>Further behind on the runaround are gons for Lafarge, who loads slag from nearby Dofasco for shipping out west for slag cement. They are currently served by CP. When I saw the new track going in I assumed it was for them - to get their cars off the runaround. Evidently I was wrong!

This angle opened up in March or so with the demolition of those really annoying pipes that obstructed views closer to Burlington Street. Change continues here, as the acid reclamation building in the background is now being demolished, bringing down an <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=44992" target="_blank">interesting photo prop</a> that I was told was supposed to be demolished in 2021. Best I was able to do here was midday sun with smokey skies, but hey, better than nothing!

All of this recent 581 talk has had me feeling nostalgic for 551. If memory serves, this was the last 551 to run the Grimsby before 581 took things over, which pushed their arrival back in Hamilton by several hours and really killed most photo ops for what served as a Spring/Summer/Fall highlight for me for a few years. This was one of my favourite locations for shooting 551 and I wanted to shoot it one final time. What's a Hamilton scene without some clapped out vehicles next to the tracks and an obsolete smoke stack? I revisited this location on Wednesday evening only to find the stack has come down at some point in the past year. Not quite the same here without it. <br><br> Looks like the crew has finished work at Empire Steel, Bartram Lumber and Triple M Parkdale, and are headed back towards the yard and ultimately onto Aldershot.

Well, it's gone now. Loaded onto to truck and off to be scrapped. This was the last time I saw the Bunge critter working. It had just returned to operation after being sidelined for many months, and from what I have been told only ran for a couple months after this before being sidelined forever. One less cool locomotive to shoot in Hamilton.

The CN 0700 Yard Job is shoving towards Parkland Fuels as they pass by an impressive dimensional load from Hooper Welding. This is the second such load I have seen in the last two months, with the other <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=50944">here</a>. Even the crew members seemed impressed by this one.

Since the NS coils currently being built are one of the key points of interest in southern Ontario railfanning of late, figured I'd get in on the fun. Here we see the NSC critter out and about, making a move among their storage cars over on the Coke Oven Leads out front of Dofasco. Currently among those cars are both painted and unpainted NS/NKLX coils (as Trenergy in St. Catharines isn't building hoods as quickly as NSC is building cars), with unpainted pictured here. They ended up pulling a tagged NSCX demo car out of the storage pile - for what reason, I have no idea.

The CN 0700 Yard Job with a dimensional load from Hooper in the Eastport area. These moves happen only a couple of times a year as far as I know, and are typically handled under darkness by the 1600 Yard Job. Aside from empties going in on the 1600, this is the first pull from Hooper I've ever seen. At the time of the photo, the load was stuck against the fence of the adjacent scrap yard.
